Srotar Ashor is a non profit organization based in Melbourne, Australia, with the express aim of nurturing and showcasing Bengali music and culture.

Srotar Ashor was formed when a few like minded Bengalis were drawn together by their love of music and perhaps, from a shared sense of nostalgia about their country of origin, Bangladesh. This small group would meet at regular intervals to sing together, enjoy each other’s company, and for that brief moment replicate their cultural life back home.

It soon became apparent that there were many in the community who were keen music enthusiasts, as well as many talented musicians, but lacked a forum to come together in a happy union.  A conscious decision was thus made to include the wider audience and, as a result, Srotar Ashor was incorporated in December 2004 with the aim of organizing regular musical programs.

Each year Srotar Ashor organizes 3 to 5 theme based programs drawing on the talents of its core members, as well as members of the community in Melbourne and other states in Australia. Since its inception, Srotar Ashor has staged well over 35 programs spanning across many genres – from the esoteric Indian classical music to the immensely popular band music. Entrance to the program is free. Programs are funded by contribution from members, generous music enthusiasts, and Victorian Multicultural Commission.

Over the years, Srotar Ashor has created a lot of goodwill in the community through its committment to excellence and quality.  This was only possible because of the untiring and selfless effort of its members.   The membership is an eclectic blend of youthful exuberance and middle aged contemplation united by one common goal. The members are committed to arranging many more programs in the coming days and enjoy every step of the way.
